Timber Hills Kennel is a family-owned business located in Peterborough, ON. As a CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) breeder, We specialize and take pride in raising great family companions. Our dogs and puppies are members of our family and raised in our home.
Keeping dogs out of shelters is our goal. We are firm believers that there aren’t any bad dogs. Just dogs that need some professional guidance to help them thrive in our world. We take the time to train your dog and then provide you with the tools to continue training your dog through its lifetime.
Meet the Person Behind the Business
Jon French has always had a love for dogs. He grew up with Labrador Retrievers as a child and as soon as he turned 18 years old, purchased a Labrador Retriever of his own. Jon is a certified professional dog trainer that focuses on using the positive reinforcement training method. Jon is committed to grow and develop as a trainer. He's always enrolled in continuing education programs to provide the best training services in the area.

- Breeding: Timber Hills has very high standards when it comes to the well being of our dogs and the puppies we are raising. We are committed to raising all of our dogs in home and treating them as members of our family. All of our dogs are fed a premium diet of fresh raw food with excellent additional healthy toppers. Our dogs receive annual health exams and are genetically tested to ensure they don’t have any health risks.
- Training: Timber Hills uses positive reinforcement (clicker) training only. Positive reinforcement means there’s no aversive (punishment) consequences. This method of training is scientifically proven to have the best results to change behaviour and makes it a fun experience for both the trainer and the dog! You’ll see your dog light up with joy, excitement and an eagerness to learn!

The whole experience from the very first contact to the date of writing this has been fantastic. Jon and Andrea both clearly adore their dogs and the puppies in their litters. They were always very responsive to questions and even many weeks after picking up our puppy they are still extremely helpful and very happy to receive updates and photos. This is our fourth purchase of a puppy from a CKC registered breeder over the years and was by far the best experience we have had. Jon and Andrea sent photos, videos and updates regularly prior to picking up our puppy so we could keep up to date as he grew and developed. As for our puppy…he is the sweetest, calmest, most handsome boy. Jon and Andrea had the puppies in their home from birth until they went home with their families and they were exposed to so many things that a puppy in a kennel or outbuilding would not be which has made a huge difference in our opinion. Their communication from day one was excellent through video chats as well as text messages, and still is a little over a month after picking up our puppy. They’re very easy people to talk to, super friendly and extremely helpful when discussing info and answering questions regarding their puppies. When picking up our boy who we now call Duke, they explained so much information about the puppy that we had no questions to ask! From the moment we first inquired about Axel and Bobby's new litter, we've had nothing less than the most positive experience ever!
During our first visit at 8 weeks old, we could tell the littler was being raised as if part of the Timber Hills family; they were being socialized with the 4 adult dogs, raised in the home and fed a high quality diet – they were all healthy and happy puppies! It was so hard to choose, we let Ivy choose us!
At 10 weeks, Ivy was ready to come home. Timber Hills provided excellent support to make Ivy's transition to her forever home easy:
they provided a care package that included a blanket and stuffed toy with momma's scent on it
enough kibble to transition Ivy to a new food
details of her first vet visit, including her chip information so we can register her
a "binder" with everything we needed to know – our little Ivy owners' manual!
At 4 months old now, we receive so many compliments on our Ivy; she's highly trainable (taking after her smart dad Axel!) and is wonderful with our 3 kids (gets this from her super chill momma Bobby!).
